Robin Langley has been awarded the Doak Award for 2016 by the Journal of Sound and Vibration. The Doak Award was established in 2011 by Elsevier in order to highlight the most successful paper in the Journal of Sound and Vibration each year, and the award is given for the paper which has the best combined record of downloads and citations.
The paper in question was "A general mass law for broadband energy harvesting, JSV, 333 (2014), 927-936, R.S. Langley". The paper set bounds on the amount of energy that can be harvested from a vibrating surface, regardless of whether the device is linear or nonlinear, and regardless of the number of degrees of freedom in the device. The award was presented at the International Congress on Sound and Vibration in London, July 2017.
